Weimer Becomes Only 13th Life Member
13 Dec 2013 by Ken Harrrington
At the Ringwood Basketball Association General Meeting held on Monday night, Hawks Big V Captain Willie Weimer was granted the highest of all honours, Life membership of the Club he loves.
Weimer started his basketball career as an eight year old playing domestic hoops with the Spirit Magic and Heathmont Hornets, Clubs that have produced many great players for the Ringwood Hawks.
From there Weimer made the jump to the Hawks and quickly started to show a great ability to shoot and defend. His aggression and intensity was starting to show through as Weimer made the Youth League team as a 17 year old and instantly become one of the main scorers.
Weimer graduated into the Championship team in 2001 and averaged an impressive 10ppg as a rookie. He improved each season and was named team Captain in 2005, a position he still holds today.
In 2012, Weimer led the Hawks to their second Big V State Championship trophy and in 2013 he was the first player in hawks history to play 300 Big V games.
His impact on the court has been just as positive off the court as he has set a culture in the team that has rubbed off on the younger players he has helped mould along the journey.
The rare accolade is well deserved and Weimer now joins only 12 other members of this exclusive club. Congrats Willie, Cara, Ella and Ashlyn.
